Frequently Asked Questions
Parent Coaching
What is naturalistic ABA and why do you use it?
Naturalistic ABA embeds teaching into play, routines, and daily interactions. I use this approach because it supports communication, flexibility, and regulation in ways that are meaningful to children and sustainable for families. It prioritizes assent, connection, and practical skill-building rather than contrived teaching settings.
What does parent coaching look like?
Parent coaching begins with an initial consult to determine fit and eligibility. Sessions focus on identifying specific goals, understanding why behaviors occur, and practicing strategies you can use at home. I emphasize routines you already have in place so the work feels manageable and not like a separate program you need to create.
Who is parent coaching for?
Parent coaching is appropriate for any family, but specifically for families of children with autism or developmental differences who want support with communication, regulation, behavior, or daily living skills. Families who prefer naturalistic strategies and collaborative problem-solving tend to be a good fit.
Do you diagnose autism or provide formal evaluations?
No. I do not provide diagnostic assessments. My work focuses on behavior support, communication development, and family coaching. This service may be useful for families who are unable to pursue an autism diagnosis or are on wait lists for evaluations or ABA services.
Do you accept insurance?
No. Services are private pay. This allows coaching to remain flexible, individualized, and not limited by insurance requirements.
Can you work remotely?
Yes, parent coaching can occur remotely depending on the family’s location and needs.
How do I know if you’re a good fit for my family?
We start with a short initial consult to discuss your goals and what support would look like. If my services are not the right fit, I may provide recommendations for alternative supports.
Do you work directly with my child?
No. I provide behavior skills training for parents, which means I teach you how to use strategies that support communication, regulation, and daily routines. Your child may be present during sessions, or we may review videos of you using the strategies, but I do not provide direct ABA services to your child.
